YOUR PORTFOLIO
A portfolio is essential in order to gain work as a model. Basically it is your CV. It will be a collection of professional images that your agency will use to apply to castings on your behalf. A good portfolio will show confidence and versatility. Quality over quantity is the rule here. It is better to have 10 great, professional images rather than 20 average images. The printed portfolio is still very popular today and is the most common form of portfolio that models need to attend castings with. Many clients like to have a look through a model’s portfolio – particularly if they have not worked with youbefore…this enables the client to see how versatile you are as a model. Having a printed portfolioalso shows that you are serious about modelling.
After your photoshoot we will provide you with a disk containing your chosen images. As you will be using the images commercially you will essentially be buying the copyright from us – this will mean that you will be able to use the pictures for anything that you please. The bonus of having your portfolio digitally is that you will be able to retouch and resize your images easily.
Here are some tips:
Your images should look as natural as possible so do not use heavily photoshopped images Select 10 -12 images to start your portfolio
Do not use the same type of image twice
Build on your portfolio by ‘testing’ with reputable, talented up and coming photographers
PROMOTIONAL MATERIAL
Another form of promotional material a model requires are Z cards or comp cards. If your portfolio is your CV then a Z card is your business card. You never know when you can bump into someone that you could potentially work with. You could be in a nightclub, a coffee shop or on the tube. So rather than having to carry your portfolio with you everywhere you go keep some professional Z cards handy instead. The Z card typically has 4-6 different images as well as your stats (name, height, measurements, shoe size and contact details). Z Cards are to be given out to prospective clients and agencies as an alternative to your portfolio. As with your portfolio the images need to be of a professional standard.
